Olin news ECUSTA RAFER AND FILM GROUP Vol. XXIII, No. 1 FIRST QUARTER 1977 PISGAH FOREST FILM PLANT LEADS AGAIN IN OLIN SAFETY CONTEST IS IN THIRD YEAR The cellophane plant at Pisgah Forest formally received in first quarter the BEST IN OLIN award and, was selected again to repre sent the Ecusta Paper and Film Group in corporate competition for the plant with the best accident prevention program. Olin President John M. Henske made the presen tation and later displayed the award with James E. Reese, Jr., left, financial secretary of Local 1971 and chairman of Union representa tion on the Company-Union safety committee. John S. RECEIVES BEST IN OLIN A WARD “My congratulations to you and all of your people for a real job well done,” Olin President John M. Henske said to Pisgah Forest film workers when presenting them the BEST IN OLIN award. “Olin is one of the four or five leading companies throughout America with its record on safety. When I go to a convention of chemical companies or industrial companies I very proudly boast about our record. But we can be better,” he challenged. “If you can find some way to make what you are doing contagious, so that other Olin plants catch your record, we will truly be the best rather than one of the four or five best.” Henske singled out the plant’s factor. In 1975 there were 201 sug gestions to supervision on how to make operations safer. Of these, 187 were installed and made operable. Last year, out of 297 suggestions, 269 were put in operation by the end of the year. safety suggestion system as a major “Fletcher Roberts gave me these statistics this morning.
